Into the Abyss

"So where do you live?" I said.
"I have no place to stay, and you are my only friend, i'd hate t impose but you wouldn't mind would you?"
Still he blushed.
"Uhm...yeah sure uuuh, as in sleep in my flat? Uuh, yeah, you can do that, if you want. I mean, I don't mind, no not at all." he stuttered. It was adorable.
"Thanks." I smiled at him.
We walked down the street, admiring black tree trunks with pink and blue an dyellow leaves. I looked at my boots. I missed my flower garden...
I sighed.
"What is it, Miss Caroline?"
"Call my Carry, and it's not really anything. I just miss my flower garden."
"Oh dear! Don't be sad! Please don't. I have a garden! I'll show you, you'll love it. Oh you really are perfect aren't you." said Bartlebea, as he squeased my hand and ran with me down at least four blocks. We got to a very large building. It was red with green-ish blue, maybe teal trim and black shutters and doors.
"It's a nice flat, it's not big but it's nice. I've got a lab on the roof."
"Lab?"
"You'll see."
We entered the building and stepped into an ornate bronze eleator, like the cast iron one they had in Italy when I was there, although the bronze made them look so much more enchanting.
On the third floor we stepped out.
"Number 28, that's mine."
I smiled quaintly.
He unlocked the door with an ornate bronze key. We stepped inside.
"Home! I have a roomate, you see. He's a ncie fellow, but a bit bold, don't be alarmed, or afraid to tell him no."
I'm sure I looked puzzled.
Just then a tall yellow chameleon walked in, wearing a loose yellow tunic shirt, and brown slacks.
"My my, a lady friend, Bea? Is it a present? You shouldn't have."
"Giles, this is my new girlfriend, Caroline, she is going to be staying with us. Caroline, this is Giles."
"Pleasure..." I said with disdain. He seemed sleezy and slimy. I normally like lizards, but I've never seen one my size before.
"She can stay in my room...You see my earest Caroline, I can tell you're not from around here. here in the town of Bello, we have very strict laws. Lovers may not sleep together until they are married, it is against the queens law. So seeing as you are not my lover, you should sleep in my bed." He smiled, disgustingly.
"No." said Bartlebe.
"She will sleep in my bed, and I shall sleep on the sofa. That isn't even law, you lech! How can you try to take advantage of my first girlfriend you ass!" Giles looked angry. he turned red briefly. So did his shirt. I couldn't help but giggle. Was i really his first girlfriend? He's so handsome though...
"I mean, not my first, just...in a while. I mean uuuh, yeah that's not really a law, as in it's okay for us to sleep together...uh I mean, no, i mean unless you want to, or if you don't that's fine. I mean I don't want to, I mean I do, but only if you do...I uuuh oh shit." He exhausted himself. What a silly young man, I thought. He's perfect for me.
I stood up and went over to him and grabbed his hand gningerly.
"So how about that garden?"
"Huh? Oh yes yes of course." He stuttered as the red left his face and he smiled again.
We took a set of marble stairs to the roof where there was a small glass green house a midst several trees, and plants, and in the back I saw colorful flowers everywhere.
"You see I'm a botanist by profession. When my parents left I got their flower shop, and I've always loved having the power to create life out of the earth's womb and a single seed. It's truly amazing."
"I feel exactly the same way."
I remembered something.
"Are you familiar with the cannabis sativa plant?"
"Ah yes, quite common here. Most people buy them in cigarettes, but I preffer to grow my own."
"Cool." I said as i put my bag down and took out my pipe.
"Would you like to have a smoke?" I said.
"Why the hell not." He laughed, as casually as a pedler in Amsterdam.

We went over to the glass shack. There were plants i'd never seen before. Types of fly traps, the meat eating plants. Spots and glitter and slimes and stinks and spores or all different types. He hsowed me his best weed tree. It was purple and blue. My jaw dropped, it was huge.
He pulled off a few leaves and rolled them in his hands.
"Here we call it Genji." said Bea
"You mean Ganja?"
"No, Genji, after the explorer who brought it for us to grow as a cash crop hundreds of years ago. It's our main form of barter and trade."
Maybe this was a dream, maybe it wasn't. I could live here with someone that loves me, and grows his own 'genji' and be content for eternity, or I could risk my life trying to go back to a life where no one cared. Staying seemed best choice.
"Do you like music?" I asked him, as we sat in his green house, while it filled with smoke.
"Do I. I let all my plants listen to music. It helps them grow. Why, do you?"
"Music is wonderful. I can let you listen to some I have with me."
"That sounds great."
I took out my iPod and put it to max volume. We shared ear phones as we boxed ourselves in. Laughing and carrying on.
Nothing coul dbe finer.
