Hall of Infinite Doors

One branch, two... After an arduous climb up the tree, whose roots seemed to be growing in the floor, you were finally at the top. It was quite peaceful, actually. Then again, skydiving without a parachute would garner a relative peace considering what you've been through on your trip down the hallway. There was nothing around you save a picturesque view of the hallway you just traveled, a couple of candy wrappers inconsiderately discarded by your predecessors, and the dark green foliage of the tree. Notwithstanding the penultimate garbage and the ungainly sight of some of the more sordid rooms along the hallway, your lofty perch had a certain je ne sais quoi that seemed to relieve some of the fatigue, the inevitable result of hours of walking. Perhaps if more people were as curious as you to see the end of the hallway, the populace would be in much better shape. All they'd need to do is set up concession stands every five miles or so to serve drinks and carb laden energy foods. And bathrooms, unless some of the doors actually led to bathrooms, which was unlikely, given their unconventional names.

It would be nice to stay there for a while, but you had an infinite hallway to explore! But where was the next section of the hallway? In front of you was a solid wall of marble, and there was nothing else above you save a score of floodlights casting a brilliant pool of light over the tree and the surrounding area.

Perhaps the way to the next section wasn't at the top of the trees at all. As you begin to climb down to see if there was something near the massive sycamore's base that might shed light on the situation, one of the candy wrappers falls on you, which might have been considered odd, as you were a ghost, but after all that's happened so far, it was just par for the course. The wrapper looked innocuous enough, though it didn't look like any kind of candy you've ever seen before. Flipping it over to the front, you noticed it didn't have a brand name, only a vague command; "EAT ME". Out of curiosity, you returned to your perch, only to find that the other wrappers had similar orders--"CONSUME ME", "INGEST ME", "DEVOUR ME", and "CONTINUE DOWN THE HALLWAY". The latter seemed the oddest, though the way to the next path seemed clear enough. As your luck would have it, there's just enough of each candy for one more person.

Wasn't this like a children's book of some sort, where a young female protagonist was whisked into a strange land where strange foods allowed people to grow and shrink by ludicrous proportions, only to find out that the entire thing was a dream? Perhaps this was all a dream, and in time you would wake up to find yourself at the dawn of another Monday morning. Or perhaps it's a dream of a dream. Or even an endless spectrum...

It was a dream of a thought of a brainchild, which involved a chimera she thought up last week, while thinking over some of her old ideas...

Anyway...
