Life After Life
"Why would you put me in a room with Jared after what just happened? Isn't it clear we don't get along?" Jared was actually one of the most annoying people I'd ever had the displeasure of talking to.
"A couple reasons," Mark replied. "First, he's been on the waiting list the longest, and second, I think the two of you could learn from each other."
"Learn from each other? Are your joking?"
"He must be," Jared had returned, "it's a bad joke though. I'm not laughing."
"Ah, excellent," Mark exclaimed grinning at Jared, "Jared let me introduce you to your new roommate Crystal, Crystal this is Jared, a third year student. He should be able to show you around and introduce you to other students. Then he can get you a key and show you your new room."
I now knew what Mark's fault was. He was charming but obviously also barking mad. "Is there some way to get a second opinion?" I asked, eying Jared unhappily.
"If there was, I'd be there," it was Jared who replied. "I sure don't want to spend the next six months with you." He looked me up and down in a way that made me very uncomfortable. "You remind me of my mother."
