Hall of Infinite Doors

You instinctively grab for the handle and run toward the scene, thinking in the back of your mind how much faster it would have been to drive. It takes several seconds to reach her car and you can hear her panting as you approach. The mysterious man must have seen you coming in her tail lights as he zips up and dashes off into the darkness.

When you arrive Nikky is leaning up against the flat tire. She looks up startled. "Chris, what are you doing here?"

You flip out your phone, but she reaches for your hand. "No. No police. Not yet." You put the phone away. She bursts into a shower of tears. She doesn't stop crying, so you escort her to the safety of her driver's seat and then change her tire for her. She thanks you profusely as her tears start to dry and then drives off.

You drive home. The next time you see her in French class she seems back to her perky, carefree self, though you can tell she's hiding issues beneath. You're perplexed.
