Hall of Infinite Doors

You gather some provisions from the house and take off for the woods. It's a hot day and you sit many yards off where you can watch the small hovel where you grew up and that you once called home. The well and the green grass around it bring back so many memories.

Some time in the afternoon a troop of twenty mounted men show up bringing the prison wagon with them. One of the men runs inside and grabs a bunch of your clothing. Your thoughts race through why they would want such things. Then you see the gnarled driver of the prison wagon walk around back of the wagon and unlatch the door. Out bound several healthy dogs barking and yipping away.

You elect not to wait. There is a river not far from where you live and you run for it, leaving your rucksack and provisions behind.

As you reach the heights near the river a horseman knocks you down. You see him bound through the trees down the hill in front of you, as he struggles to control his horse. You hear dogs around you. You run forward and then sideways. You are hemmed in at every turn.

Now you are climbing up a cliff next to the waterfall that pours a hundred feet into the river--anything to get away from the dogs. A spear bounces off the cliff beside you. Behind and below you are three men on horseback. You continue climbing.

Finally you reach the top.

"There he is!" shouts one. All around you are men on foot and horses. You see a sneer from a man you recognize as the sheriff. Dogs bark. To your back you hear the roar of the water pouring down the falls. It's time to fight or die.
