Still not having a map of Nimes, you head into the Old Town. It is better kempt than Montpellier; far less grafitti, virtually no traffic and in places paved with shiny yellow stone. Whilst Montpellier has a studenty feel, Nimes presents itself as a place for ladies who lunch. Many fashion boutiques and little restaurants down side streets.

You wander aimlessly for a while until you come across the Cathedral. You consider going in, but bear in mind that it is a Sunday and there might be a service to interrupt. Next to it is a museum of Old Nimes, dedicated to local history.
