Hall of Infinite Doors

You rush up to the nearest soldier.

"I saw a flash!" you shout, "A flash of light in the woods!" The soldier doesn't say a word to you, but he's quick to respond. He rushes to a the alarm bell and starts ringing it and shouting madly.

"ARMY APPROACHING!" he yells, "PREPARE DEFENSES!"

Immediately the once silent wall comes to life. Soldiers and archers race up the wall from the barracks below, their weapons ready. You just hope you haven't made a mistake.

You are given your answer soon. A deep, gutteral yell is sounded through the woods below, and a horn is blown. Immediately, hundereds of gigantic men charge from the forest. Your

heart stops. These massive men, at average around thirteen feet tall, are clad in mail and plate armour, covered almost from head to foot in steel. You look down at your own leather armour and boots and understand that you will not live out the night.

"THE ANAK!" you hear men scream, "THE ANAK ARE ATTACKING!"

Once in range, the archers let their arrows fly towards the giants. Some are pierced, but the Anak's armour protects most of them.

You can see several giants holding a massive battering ram and rushing towards the main gate of the town. Many soldiers surround them with their shields to protect them.

You stand there, almost helpless, unsure of what to do. You are way over your head.

Several giants holding crossbows rush up to the front lines and fire upon the archers. You are surprised by how quickly and efficiently the Anak work, like a machine, a well organized force.

Dead men fall around you as the Anaks' arrows stick into them. You throw yourself down to protect yourself, but others are not so quick. As you look around, you see a startled, unorganized army falling to the wrath of the Anak Giants.

You cower. You are so afraid. You cannot lift yourself to fight these monsters, these giants. In the distance you hear the consistent pounding of the battering ram against the gate. You should get down there. You should help them. But you can't. You cannot bring yourself to do it. You're such a coward.

Then you hear the cries and the wails of women. What will happen to them if that gate breaks down?

You wake up and jump to your feet. Clutching the spear tightly in your hands, you rush down the steps of the wall and into the city, towards the gate.

Several men run past you carring logs of wood and steel, anything that can be used to strengthen the gate a bit longer, to give them more time. The civilians who cannot fight are running for their lives, scurrying, trying to find some cover before the gate is broken down. Despair is in the city, hanging about like a impenterable fog.

Eventually you reach the gate. Everything around you shakes as the battering ram crashes into the iron and wood doors again and again. Many men are pressing themselves against it with all their might, while others are hamering slabs of wood and metal wherever they can in an attempt to strengthen the gate.
