The Werewolf Chronicles

You cover the pit again with heavier sticks and more leaves. This time you lay the little bloody mess of a rabbit on the trap in the vain hope it might attract a werewolf. The two brothers look at you like you're completely nuts. You all resume your positions hiding in the shrubbery surrounding the pit and wait.

The moments pass ever so slowly. After a long wait you make out a shadow in the clearing under the light of the full moon. You feel the dread presence of something and a cold shiver jolts you when the creeping figure of a silver haired werewolf comes into view. You hold your breath and wait for the reactions of the other two. The werewolf first stiffs the dead rabbit, then at the surrounding air. Its fiercely shining eyes fall onto where you are positioned and you suddenly realise that it can smell you!

BOOM!

Zhun's shotgun instantly blows off the lower half of the werewolf's right leg. You raise your shotgun and take aim at the beast, though as quickly as the werewolf came into the small clearing, it disappears straight into the pit!

As you reach the edge of the pit you raise your shotgun once more and carefully take aim. The werewolf's still alive, barely. It's impaled in half a dozen places. The werewolf lets out a final though terrible high pitched whine.

"Not the head!" is the only thing Zhun shouts at you. You lower the shotgun slightly and blow away the beast.

A moment later, what's left of the werewolf transforms into a dead form of a naked man.

"Nice job," Zhun says to you. "You're lucky you didn't blow off his head, we need to know who it was."

Thanks to your excellent shotgun skills at point blank range, there isn't much left of the man. Just a right arm, left leg and his head are all that remains intact. The rest is just really difficult to describe.

"It is, or rather was, a man from a neighbouring village. He was a good family man, his wife said he went missing about five months ago," Zhun says in a low whisper, staring at the dead man.

The three of you bury the man where he lays. Filip makes a rudimentary cross and places it at the head of the grave. He still deserves a proper burial after all even though he was a ferocious werewolf a moment ago.
