Borkka
"I will track them on my own, wizard," You say, the word "wizard" coming out like the most vile of curse words. "I am skilled at tracking and will use my hunting abilities to locate them and follow them to whoever is behind this madness."
Malkarus looks offended at first, but he takes a deep breath and nods. "I wish you luck, then." He turns and walks away in a fury.
You turn to Yornalla. "Let's go," You say to her. She snaps to attention and nods.
"Wait," you hear from behind you. You turn around to see the big man who met you at the door staring at you. "I'm going with you," He says.
"As will I," says another, stepping out from behind him. He is a shorter man, but of a stocky and muscular build.
You hold out a closed fist extended before you in greeting. "My name is Borkka," You tell them.
"I am known as Godar," the big man tells you, extending his own fist before him. The shorter man introduces himself as Tonal.
Three more join you, a man nearing fifty years named Kossa and a his son of twenty called Mikus. Also joining your group is a quiet young man with dark hair and shifty eyes who calls him self Crow.
You expect that you will need all the help you can get when you find the manipulator of the sleep walkers, so you deny none of them.
Malkarus returns just as you are about to walk out the door. He holds a small sack tied off with a thin rope and hands it out to you.
"Take these, they will help you fight the sleep." You take the little sack from his hands and hold them tentatively before you.
"What is it?" You ask.
"They are a type of bean cultivated in the mountain regions. When allowed to seep in hot water, like tea, they have a very energizing effect."
"We've been living off of them for days," The big guy tells you.
You tie the bag to your breeches and nod to Malkarus in thanks. "We should leave now," You say to the group.
They follow you out of the wizards' estate into the silent and empty streets of Tor-Matu. The silence is eerie. You have only been to this city once before, but it was bustling with activity, the streets so crowded that it made you nervouse. Now there was nothing, just a group of seven people whose foot falls echoe off the walls.
After a little walking you are able to find their tracks, a trail of hundreds of feet leaving the city for a road the leads towards the forrest mountains in the distance.
The tracks are many and blatantly obvious, a blind idiot would have no trouble following them. This is good, you think, considering the spots that are constantly bursting before your eyes. You follow them into the wood.
After some time tracking you come to the crest of a hill. Down below you is a clearing in the wood. Moonlight spills down upon the forms of a hundred still bodies, standing erect and facing the path ahead of them.
You call your group to a halt.
"What are they doing?" Yornalla asks of you.
"I do not know," You reply.
"I've never seen them do this before," the barrel chested Godar tells you.
The older man, Kossa clears his throat. "It looks like they are resting."
"What need would they have for rest when they are already asleep?" Yornalla asks of him skornfully, her frustration finding an outlet.
"The body must rest, lady," Kossa replies.
The dark haired young man known as Crow steps forward and speaks up. "We should go down there and investigate," He says. "Maybe we can find something out."
"No," says Kossa. "Our bodies need rest as well. I say we take this opportunity to do just that. We can also soak the beans in water and re-energize ourselves."
"We cannot let an opportunity like this pass us by," Crow argues. "A few of us must go down there!"
"You are a fool, Crow," Kossa says. "You are not even from Tor-Matu. Malkarus should have let the others take you."
"Be calm, both of you," big Godar says. "Let us allow Borkka to decide. It is he who was brave enough to track them. Allow him to reach a decision for us."
Kossa, Crow, and the others stare at you expectantly. You look to Yornalla for guidance again, but as usual recieve nothing but a cold stare. She hasn't been the same since Alkar died.
