Weapon

So much for sticking to the roads for safety.

Jezirea didn't even have anything valuable on her, and she was almost out of money, but she wasn't about to let them know that.

Hopefully, she was just faster than them.

Without hesitation she bolted in to the forest.
She could hear the men's shouts of anger as they gave chase.

She wasn't worried though. Jezirea was in fit condition, and she was certain that she would be able to outrun them, not only with speed, but with endurance.
Her small body size gave her an advantage. She had just that much weight to carry around with her, and she was certain that the men behind her would tire long before she did.

All she had to do was keep putting one foot infront of the other. Focus on weaving through the trees, and keep putting one foot infront of the other.

Jezirea's heart jumped in to her throat as she put her right foot forward and it met with ground that was less than solid.
She barely had time to cry out as the ground gave way beneath her weight, before she was falling, down in to darkness.

There was a split second, where Jezirea was gripped with the fear of the unknown.
How far would she fall, before being broken upon the catacomb floor?

That question was answered a second later as her fall was halted suddenly. Tangled roots grasped at her, slowing her descent before she impacted roughly on the damp earthen floor.

The fall as been short, and the roots had slowed her, but it had still hurt.

She climbed shakily to her feet, still just realizing what had happened.
She looked up, to the hole she had fallen through. It was about three feet above her head, just out of reach. Light was filtering in through the roots and disturbed earth; the air filled with dirt and dust motes.
She could still hear the men who had been chasing her, but now they sounded distant.

Had they seen her fall?
Hopefully, the underbrush of the forest had obscured their view of her well enough that none of them had seen her dissappear in to the earth.
If that was the case then they would probably have to stumble upon the hole to find it, just as Jezirea had literally done.

Jezirea leaned in to the shadows.
She began to examine her surroundings and realized that the hole was actually a tunnel. It seemed to go off in to the distance, sloping downward. Was it an abandoned mine shaft?

Would it be safe to hide here?
