The Quest

You light some incense in the temple, breathing in the sweet smell, and trying to ignore all of the commotion that's going on outside. You have heard people talking about some kind of disease, but you pay it no mind. You are safe in this temple. You know that nothing can harm you. What goes on outside it has nothing to do with you.

As you lay your flowers on the altar to your goddess, you become aware of someone entering the temple behind you. They might be moving quietly, but you have been well trained in the magical arts, and can sense even the quietest person, unless they are shielding, of course, which this one is not.

Still keeping your back to the intruder, you allow your free hand to slip under your robe, where you keep your poisoned dagger. Every priestess is trained both in magic and in the use of weaponry, so that they have the means to defend themselves should they choose to go travelling. Many don't. You are such a one.

The intruder keeps well back from you, and you hear him stammer out, "M-my Lady... The High Priestess demands your presence at once." His speech identifies him as one of the temple guards, Sarin.

You allow your eyes to cloud over for a moment. You and the High Priestess have never particularly liked each other. There has been hostility between you two since the moment you first laid eyes on each other. Why would she send for you now?

You are tempted to keep her waiting, just to annoy her. But the high priestess could get quite annoyed with you if you were to do so, and those who insult her usually do not live to see another day.

What do you want to do?
