Final Stand

Carefully, you swing you right leg over the edge and placing it on the first rung, you begin to descend into the darkness. When the bottom of your head comes level to the surface of the floor of Rick's Guns, you swing your right arm over the edge of the hole and pull the trap door cover over you. After a moment of struggle, the cover slips back into the hole with a soft thud.

Continuing your descent, you begin to break out into a cold sweat from the fear of missing a step and plunging backward into the darkness. You stop for a moment in near total paralysis at thought mistakenly descending into a demonic pit filled with those of the vampire hoard. Listening, you can hear nothing but the roar of the fire above and the sound of dripping water below.

Willing yourself to continue, after a few moments you feel your right foot touch what feels like a floor. Gingerly feeling around, you can sense the area immediately underneath the latter would seem to be solid ground. Slowly lowering your weight onto the ground, you are relieved that the ground does not suddenly give way to some further blackness below.

Reaching into your backpack, you grab your flashlight and draw it out. Turing it on, you flash your beam into the darkness. A few weapons in varying states of decay lie scattered to the left and right of the latter. You are surprised to see a large quantity of boxed ammo stacked neatly to your left. You wonder who may have transported the items below from Rick's Guns.

As you turn fully around, you see that a tunnel that appears to have been etched by the passage of long gone waters winds its way further into the darkness. Listening again, you can hear that the source of the water drops must have originated from further down the mysterious tunnel.

The sounds from above you carry greater menace. The sounds of slow footsteps waft gently from above. The fires in the front of Rick's guns must have died down sufficiently to allow the vampires entry into your former short-term refuge. You decide that climbing back up the latter would carry you directly into the arms of a waiting vampire.

What will you do?
