Everything Went Dark
Tatum had tons of unread text messages. A lot were from the drama group chat she was on that she barely responds to. She had texts from her family and friends as well. Some of the texts were just a simple "Love you, stay safe", while others were more like "Where the hell are you?!" and "Do you know what's going on???" or even worse "I think *insert name of friend and/or family member* is dead, are you dead??". Responding to them was hopeless. That's a main reason why Jennan wasn't checking her phone.
Then Tatum got a notification. A new one. From her brother, Lincoln. Jennan scrolled through the many messages he sent Tatum. He had sent her pictures of him, Saylor, and Nash all hiding under the kitchen table along with several panicked messages saying how mom and Hamilton went outside to see what was wrong and they never came back inside. He said how none of his friends or other family members were answering him and wanted Tatum to come back home.
Jennan typed a response. And at first, Lincoln seemed really excited. He started to spam Tatum's name. Jennan typed that she was actually Jennan and just had Tatum's phone. But she lied and said that she knew that Tatum was safe hiding under the stairs in a nearby house. Lincoln responded immediately asking for Jennan to get Tatum and for her to get home. Jennan said she couldn't do that right now and asked Lincoln is he knew where their dad was. All Lincoln knew was that his dad was at work and that he wasn't answering his phone either. Jennan reminded Lincoln to stay quiet and keep Saylor and Nash quiet.
After a few seconds, Lincoln said that he was going to leave his phone with Saylor was going to check on mom and Hamilton. Jennan discouraged it. But then Saylor responded back saying that he had already left. Nash followed him even though Lincoln told him not to follow. Jennan asked Saylor if she was okay. Saylor didn't know. There was a little while before she typed anything else. And when she did, Jennan legitimately didn't know what to do. Saylor said that she heard Nash start crying really loud and then both him and Lincoln starting screaming. Then they went silent. Saylor begged from Jennan to get Tatum for her because "at least she's still alive".
Jennan started to type something else when Saylor facetimed her. Jennan answered and the two muted themselves. Saylor looked fine, just really really scared. She turned her camera around to show Jennan what she could see. The inside of their house looked really nice compared to the other house she was in. There wasn't anything broken or turned over. Saylor couldn't see out any windows either. Jennan tried to give Saylor a comforting smile, but it didn't seem to work. Then, Saylor looked up and around the place, her head turning wildly. Jennan messaged her and asked what was wrong.
Saylor responded back quickly. "It's the oven making noise". Now, for those who don't know, the Bunker household is really old. And so is the oven. The oven is very stupid and whenever it is used it won't shut the fuck up. By that, I mean it doesn't matter how many times you turn it off. It could be five hours past the time you last touched the oven and it would just start beeping. It beeps at random times and just goes on until you turn it off. It often just starts beeping when everyone is asleep and wakes up everyone. It's a whole ordeal. The only way to 100% get it to stop beeping is to go outside to the fusebox and turn off the kitchen power.
The oven's beeps aren't quiet either. And since Saylor was hiding in the kitchen, it was extremely unsafe for her. Jennan spammed "GO" and "RUN" to Saylor. She had to get out or she would die. But poor Saylor had frozen in fear and couldn't move. It was too late to do anything for Saylor. The sliding glass door shattered and Jennan couldn't hear her, but she could tell Saylor had screamed. Jennan hung up.
