A Radical Point of View: Journey of a Free Radical in a Struggle Against Enzymes and the Body
The general ROS response hypothesis is a bit more nuanced than the free radical aging theory. It suggests that the production of free radicals is not a direct contributor to the aging process. Instead, the idea is that ROS(reactive oxygen species) simply play their part as important signaling molecules and in immune system function. Over time, the amount of ROS naturally increases until the quantity of free radicals becomes toxic within the body, doing more harm than good. The important thing to note here is that this idea suggests that ROS in the body is a product of aging, and not a cause.
