A Radical Point of View: Journey of a Free Radical in a Struggle Against Enzymes and the Body

Alrighty! In the 1950s Dr. Denham Harnan proposed that free radicals played a determining role in the lifespan of humans. This idea was developed more as the Mitochondrial theory which proposes a negative feedback loop in which the mitochondria produce free radicals, creating oxidative damage and mutations in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which in turn causes mitochondrial disfunction and higher free radical generation. The overall effect would cause aging within the body in a vicious cycle.
