Taking a liking to battle, you take the first offer.
The captain orders you part of the under-deck cannon squad. Your job is to hand off cannonballs and make sure not to drop them and not to... well... blow up the ship. The job doesn't sound the worst and more assuredly you would be one of the last to die, not taking into account any extreme mishaps. You ready yourself for the next battle and stock up on citrus to fight off the ship-induced scurvy.
The battle approaches. Everyone readies their stations and you hand off the first cannonball of many...
You are not very good at this. Cannonballs are heavy and pirates yelling at you doesn't speed up the process much either. You can see through the small hole by the cannon that the other ship is equipped with nearly twice the cannons yours has. The sight of their armored hull was a bad omen, one of the first to come.
Hours of battle leave both sides tired, but in the end, your ship is torn into pieces. She floated, but barely. They 20 of your crew as payment for your safety. Safety is not without it's cost, but at least you're safe and sound. The ship feels hollow. As you dock in the harbor, a new crew is recruited and you reflect as you stare out to the sea canes (reeds by the sea)
