The Ballad of Crud and Horgus v1.1
The Scooz hands you and shrooms and feeds some to Horgus. "The Scooz will be leaving now." He says, then exits the shack.
For a few minutes, you and Horgus stare blankly at each other. And then...
Your head begins to swim. Judgement becomes clouded. You and Horgus decide to lay on the wood floor. Staring up at the ceiling, you see time and space bending and shifting. Images of you and Horgus flash before your eyes. Riding through the desert, going on adventures. You think back to when you first met your companion, and life before then seems like a different lifetime. Horgus is a part of your life, and you a part of his. You thought about whether Horgus can truly understand you, understand what is happening. You weren't sure before, but now you get the sense that Horgus understands more than you anticipated. A tear rolls down your cheek, as you contemplate Horgus and his profound impact on your life.
Horgus, in the meantime, has also shed a tear. You wonder if he feels a similar connectedness. Or perhaps he's thinking about Oat Soup. You wished you didn't have to feed Horgus oat soup. In your mind, you apologize to Horgus for the lack of diet variety. Even though Horgus can't speak, you get the sense that your apology has been accepted. You realize that Horgus doesn't stick with you because he's dependent on you. Indeed, Horgus could leave you in the dust at any time, and run free with the other wild horses in the wild west. But Horgus chooses to stay with you instead. Why is that? Are you truly worth sticking around? Horgus seems to think so.
You ride out the rest of your trip with Horgus, feeling more connected spiritually, and with the earth as a whole. What a wonderful, frightening experience it is to be alive.
