Ghost Pirates of the Sea-erra Madre
You fall on your knees and start begging for mercy. You tell the pirates that you're only a child and don't deserve to die and that you've always wanted to be a pirate and want to join their crew.
Blackbeard the pirate captain laughs at you again. "Join the crew? That can be arranged." He runs you through with his sword.
You feel an enormous amount of pain as the sword enters your chest and your vision quickly fades to black.
Some time later you regain consciousness. You slowly open your eyes. Did you survive the pirate's sword? Is this the afterlife?
It turns out that neither of those things are true. You died, but this isn't the afterlife, you're on Blackbeard's pirate ship! It's just that while begging for your life you forgot that these were ghost pirates and that if you wanted to join their crew then you'd have to be a ghost as well.
You find that not only are you a ghost, but that you're bound to the ship you're on and can't escape. Reluctantly, you start working as a lowly (ghost) deckhand, but slowly manage to work your way up the ranks until one day you manage to become captain of your own ghostly pirate ship! You sail the oceans, capturing ships and terrifying explorers, sailors, and tourists.
This isn't the life you'd expected for yourself, mostly because you're dead, but you enjoy becoming a new legend: the child who is also a ghost pirate captain! It's a decent un-life.
