The Unnaturals Prequel - Cataclysm

You awake the next day, if it can even be called that as the passage of time has become meaningless to you, you begin formulating plans on how to survive this terrible predicament. Many of the group look to you now as some form of leader, or voice of reason. Some have even begun referring to you as, "The Hammer." You've never sought this kind of role before, you've only ever followed your own compass and if these people choose to follow it as well, then so be it.

You decide that for the group to survive, you need to begin stockpiling the water from down the tunnel. Fortunately, there were some buckets in the back of the food area, so you assign several people to march back and forth continuously to the stream. You have no idea what will happen if that source dries up, but for now, it is the group's lifeline.

The next job is to secure more food. You begin sending groups out into the darkened tunnels to search for more hidden cafeterias or even a way out. Most of the groups return empty-handed, one group doesn't return at all. You and the others can only assume that they found some food and are hoarding it for themselves. That is until you recognize the face of one member from that group, shuffling back into the light of your home platform. The young man is covered in blood, with terrible scratches along one side of his face. He falls to his knees as a group gathers around him.

"There are killers out there..." He murmurs quietly, eyes wide in shock.

A chill runs up your spine as a wave of fear spreads through the group. You and a few others help the man back into the food area so you can collect his report without scaring the rest of the people further. The young man is quiet for a while, but when he finally does begin to speak, the story only gets more concerning.

"It happened so fast..." He begins, "We were just walking through the tunnels when they jumped on us from out of nowhere. They must have just been sitting there in the darkness, right in front of us... waiting. They didn't speak, they just jumped on us, scratching, biting... snarling like animals."

Despite the horror of the situation, you think back on the brief confrontation you had near the water source. You can almost understand how some people would come to this desperation.

"Even worse, as I fled I could hear them... eating." He shudders and begins sobbing quietly.

It's clear that the man is finished. A few of the others bring him a sad portion of food and some water. It calms him slightly.

You begin to ponder this new threat. How many obstacles can you overcome? Surviving down here is hard enough without the threat of cannibals roaming around in the darkness. Despair creeps into your mind but you force it out. You know it will do you no good. All that you can do is push forward.

You have 1 choice:
