Road To A Road Z Y X

You awaken near some railroad tracks in an empty street. Everything looks old, but nothing looks familiar. But what IS familiar? As you search your memory files, you find nothing. It appears to be early morning in an abandoned part of a suburb. You waste no time getting up, ready to figure this mess out. There's a pedestrian bridge over the tracks to the left, a dead end with some buildings to the right & tracks straight ahead. You can't hear or see signs of life anywhere. Which way do you choose to go?
