The Adventures of Atticus King

You jump for Igor’s pistol. You grab it just in time; a native swings a club that misses your arm by inches. You shoot the man in the face. He jerks backward, but he’s not down yet. He swings it again, and now another native charges you with a spear. You think you’re a goner until Edwin shoots them both with a machine gun. You shoot and shoot. More dead men pile up in front of you both, but they just keep coming.
Suddenly, you see a man wearing a fancy head dress. His ears and nose are pierced with long bone and he has the fanciest clothing and weapons, but he’s nowhere near the fighting. He must be the chief! You aim your pistol at his head just as you both make eye contact. A flash of panic and fear bolts through his eyes. A feeling of guilt and sympathy overcomes you.
