/Summary:

"Shepard was an orphan raised on the streets of the great megatropolises covering Earth. She escaped the life of petty crime and underworld gangs by enlisting with the Alliance military when she turned eighteen."

During the Skyllian Blitz (2176?), Shepard demonstrated her extreme leadership when leading ground forces on Elysium. Caught on shore leave in the planet's capital Illyria prior to the Batarian attack of the Vetus system, Shepard was quick to react to Batarian ground forces. Cut-off from the Alliance garrison, Shepard used her concealed side-arm to protect civilians from being seized by slavers and controlled the nearby crowd to push them to retreat into nearby shops. Shepard worked her way through the streets, rallying with police officers and assisting them in fighting off enemy troops. Reaching the police station, Shepard contacted the police chief to gain insight on the situation in the field. Officers near the center of the city reported that any human civilian the Batarians didn't gun down were being congregated in city hall, the enemy stronghold. When the Batarians invade, they do not often seek to conquer; they instead conduct raids that rob their targets of resources and civilians for purposes in their extensive slave trade. Realizing that if they didn't retake city hall soon, Batarian shuttles would quickly arrive to claim their new slaves before Alliance Naval reinforcements could intervene. Shepard took control of the situation, directing Illyria police forces in a daring maneuver to recover city hall. Shepard later commented that her involvement with gangs on Earth granted her considerable experience in fighting within the condensed streets of a city. Shepard directed the police forces to enact guerilla tactics to divide Batarian forces away from city hall. Snipers then eliminated Batarian guards stationed near the vulnerable group of civilians. This gave Shepard and police the opportunity to storm the building with a frontal assault, overwhelming the Batarians. After successfully securing city hall and the imprisoned citizens, Shepard and her forces now held the tactical advantage and were able to effectively repel all further invading ground forces with little difficulty until Alliance reinforcements arrived. Shepards bravery prevented the over 100,000 civilians residing in Illyria from being overrun by Batarians as well as saving the 200 non-combatants that were nearly abducted. Shepard was awarded the Silver Star for her courageous actions. After fully proving her extreme potential on Elysium, Shepard was also nominated and accepted into the N7 program.

Shepard was a key player in the Aralakh Zero War of year????. Following the First Contact War (year????), humanity sought to expand its influence in the galaxy by claiming planets of key strategic value. The Alliance thus chose to offer a finder's fee to any independent prospectors who were able to find valuable mineral deposits on far off worlds. Some brave prospectors traveled to the Aralakh system, which was technically under the jurisdiction of the Turian government following the events of the Krogan Rebellions. Prospectors in this system were extremely lucky enough to discover a large deposit of element zero on when exploring the moons of the gas giant Ruam. The moon they discovered, later named Plutus after the Greek god of abundance and wealth, was learned to have an extraordinarily large reserve of element zero, with 30% of the outer mantle of the moon being composed of the material. Alliance forces quickly moved in to secure the eezo, establishing a grounded mining platform and orbiting forward operating base to protect the asset. However, this elicited great disdain from the alien interests, especially the Turians as they saw this invasion into their supposed protected territory as an offense against their government. Because of this, along with the suspicion that the Turians sought to secure the eezo reserve for themselves, the Alliance faced great pressure from the Turians to halt all mining operations. However, human politicians were able to cleverly manipulate loopholes in galactic law to prevent the Turians from removing humans from Plutus by force. This tactic was only temporary, as Turians eventually mounted their navy to demand humans remove themselves from Plutus within 8 galactic standard hours. Not more than 5 minutes into this time period, an Alliance cruiser haphazardly lost control of its system and a chain reaction commenced causing the entire ship to explode. It was suspected that the ship malfunction either due to a stray asteroid or cosmic ray interference. However, Alliance forces already on edge suspected Turian attack and immediately retaliated, starting the first volleys of the Aralakh Zero War. The battle quickly escalated into a one sided exchange, with the superior Turian navy achieving dominance. After surrounding the Alliance orbiting FOB with their navy, Turian forces then deployed around two dozen trooper shuttles to capture the mining platform on the moon. Shepard and her N7 unit were tasked with defending the platform at the time. Without anti-air artillery, the Alliance ground forces had to be extremely clever in their defense. Using her experience as a N7 operative, Shepard formulated a daring plan that demonstrated her battle intellect. Half of the Alliance marines stationed at the platform would feign a retreat deeper into the facility, luring Turrian ground forces. Shepard, N7 operatives, and the other half of the Alliance marines then hid in the hangar until the last two Turian shuttles prepared to land on the platform. Shepard then detonated a short range, EMP bomb to disable the Turian shuttles from taking off after landing. The hangars doors then opened, promptly allowing Alliance forces to eliminate Turian forces near the shuttle. Shepard and her team then seized the Turian shuttles and loaded them with four, high density eezo deposits before departing onboard the shuttles, aimed at boarding the Turian Navy's lead dreadnought, the Element Zero Vessel(EZV) Oma Ker. Using intercepted Turian military codes to fake their identity, Shepard reported to the control tower of the Oma Ker that they required immediate medical evacuation for Turian forces who were injured by surprisingly vicious human resistance. Oma Ker was fooled and approved the Turian shuttles to board. Shepard's forces then fought mercifully through waves of Turian soldiers while escorting the eezo deposits deeper into the Oma Ker. Upon, reaching the vessels drive core, N7 engineers then attached plasma charges to the deposits for detonation upon the teams escape. Shepard realized that without someone to defend the charges, they would not have nearly enough time to escape before the Turina forces could disarm the charges."/

/"Shepard gave the order to her team to form a perimeter to protect the eezo deposits while. While Alliance marines were distracted fighting, Shepard and her N7 team escaped out of the engine room. Shepard immediately ordered N7 engineers to hack into the ship's hardware and seal the hatch behind them so that the marines were forced to continue defending the eezo deposits. Working their way back to the hangar, Shepard and the N7 team reboarded the Turian shuttles and made their escape before detonating the plasma charges. This caused the plasma charges to feed large amounts of electricity into the eezo deposits. The feedback from the unrefined eezo interfered with the functionality of the Oma Ker's drive core, creating a chain reaction that shut down the entirety of the dreadnoughts systems. The Alliance Navy swiftly destroyed the dreadnought, and with their most powerful vessel removed, the Turian Navy was forced to a standstill in the space battle. Casualties of similar magnitude continued on each side before the Turians decided that retreat after extracting their ground forces from the mining platform. Although Shepard has been severely criticized for her abandoning of Alliance marine allies on the Oma Ker as well as being blamed for the complete eradication of Alliance marines left behind on the mining platform, it is undeniable that her actions likely prevented Alliance forces from being completely annihilated by the Turians. Shepard was commended for her bravery and awarded the Star of Terra the Alliance's highest honor.

Shepard's early life as a criminal on the streets made her rather undisciplined, as noted by her training office in the N7 program. This is further demonstrated based on Shepard's involvement in the Aralakh Zero War given her reckless abandon to see her objective through regardless of the risks or necessary sacrifices. This ruthless nature has made it difficult for Shepard to get along with her fellow soldiers, especially the ones that are aware of her history; but her ability to see the mission through makes her the best go to candidate for delicate operations. Similar to most humans born on Earth, Shepard does harbor some degree of xenophobic prejudice and this has created some altercations when attempting to utilize Shepard in joint training exercises with alien forces, but these issues appear to be minor."/
