The Chestnut

You consider ringing the bell, but decide to do a bit of recon, first.

You use the cover of darkness to slip into the backyard on the deck, where Josh hosted many(two) a BBQ.

You see lights in the living room on. A good sign! Someone's home!

As you slowly peer through the corner of the window, you notice something integral. There are no swords in the window. There are curtains.

Your heart sinks, as you maneuver your field of view to see a couple on the couch watching a movie on a different TV in the wall unit.

They aren't Josh and Mandy.

There's no Taylor tuning a guitar, or playing WoW on a laptop on the carpet.

There's no white cat, loafing around aimlessly.

There's no ashtrays, or karaoke machine.

No signs of drinking, even.

It's simply a random pair of people, going about with their lives. The pioneering members of The Church have moved on, are long gone, and have been for a while now.

You creep back down off the deck, and make the trudge down the slope, leading to Erie street below.

As you take a glance, back over your left shoulder up past the treeline, you make a realization.

The Church is no more.

It's gone.
