Helen's Resurrection
"Yeah, that’s how I remember it," Lamar confirms. "He also says that we will do greater things than him. This seems like a great time to prove his theory!"
"What makes you think you can perform a miracle like Jesus did?" a sinister voice calls from the shadows.
Turning around, you see a serpent slither from between two gravestones and drop into Helen’s grave with you. It crawls towards you slowly and methodically, watching you with beady yellow eyes, scales black as night, forked tongue flicking in your direction. Approaching you, it stops and stares as if it is waiting for you to answer.
"Who are you?" You ask in a shaky voice. Snakes don’t talk, they don’t have the anatomy to make that possible, but there is no one else in the graveyard. Whatever this reptile is, you feel like it is preparing to strike as it coils in front of you. Sweat pours down your back as its eyes focus on you with a sinister gleam, a predator stalking its prey.
"I am someone who has known God and Jesus longer than you have been alive, so trust me when I assure you that this can’t be done."
"I don’t believe you. There has to be a way to bring her back." Tears blur your vision as you speak, and your face grows hot with frustration and anger. This snake must be the devil, an entity and form you remember from stories about Adam and Eve.
Talking to the leader of the demons makes your skin crawl and hands tremble. His eyes remain focused on you, freezing you in place. Your tortured soul feels like something is drilling into it, yet you find it hard to block out the serpent’s voice.
"Maybe there is, but it won’t be with your God’s help. God says that the wage for sin is death. He also says that every one of you humans has sinned. Your own God has condemned you all to death."
"Are you saying that you know a better way?"
"I can put life in that body, for a price."
"Why would I trust a snake like you?"
"Because you want your sister back. Has God reached out to tell you what to do?"
Every fiber of your being wants to shutout the voice of temptation whispering to you. His offer seems too good to be true: it is exactly what you want. Fear rises inside of you, making the world spin. You close your eyes and make up your mind.
