The Sanguine and Blackbeard's Cutlass
You raise your arms in the air and motion towards everyone to follow your lead. You walk towards the three figures putting on your friendliest face. The native in the middle, the one you rightly assume to be in command, remains stoic. His skin is dark and his lengthy black hair is tied back with beads.
“Why have you come here?” he speaks with broken, but understandable enough English.
Arms still raised, you reply, “We are seeking an artifact of great power. The blade of Quetzalcoatl. We mean you no harm, but respectfully if you stand in our way, there will be blood.”
The mention of Quetzalcoatl disrupts the native. He beats his staff into the ground causing a slight shockwave. You feel the hairs on your arm rise at the magical energy released.
“You would come to a sacred place and plunder its treasure? For what? There is a reason the blade is kept hidden.”
“It’s not my place to decide the reason. I was hired to find the blade and I intend to do my job,” you say. After a slight pause you add, “It’s probably not a big secret where it is...after all, the entire island seems to be built around the giant temple. I’d bet my left barnacle the cutlass is there.”
“We will not stop you,” the native speaks. “The blade will determine if you are worthy. Many have tried to wield it for themselves. Only Quetzalcoatl incarnate can wield it.”
“Yeah and Edward Teach,” you mutter under your breath.
