The Device
For some moments, Tommy felt the awkward silence in the room. At least, in his new body, Mr. Pensky couldn't exactly tear into him for the mistake.
Meanwhile, the scientist remained stuck in a slow, silent scream that no one was hearing. With his tiny grub eyes, which were faceted and delivered multiple images to his already confused brain, and it was a nightmarish freak show for him, seeing Tommy so huge and terrifying. Everything about the teenager screamed huge: his eyes, his lips, the chips in his mouth...
And Tommy action's had been at all reassuring, not with the teenager getting a good laugh by pretending to feed the little grub to his own pet frog.
Even now, as Tommy pinched him again between two fingers, nearly actually crushing the grub form until it felt to the scientist that he might vomit his grub guts out from the pressure.
Plop! Tommy let the "grub" fall on the desk.
Awkward silence stretched out. Tommy stared down at the grub on the desk, not saying anything for the longest time.
"Do something!" Mr. Pensky wanted to scream.
"I'm really sorry," Tommy finally said. "This was an accident, I swear."
Another beep denoted the arrival of a text message. He looked to his phone, ignoring the wiggling grub, texting something back.
Mr. Pensky felt terrified and totally outraged in this moment. What did Tommy mean... an accident?
"What did you do, you idiot!" Mr. Pensky tried to shout. "This can't be happening... this can't be happening."
Feeling totally low and no more worthy than dirt, with the gigantic Tommy hovering above him, Mark realized how much depended on the almost clueless teenager.
At that moment, Tommy casually turned. He had his phone in one hand and appeared to be typing a text message. He kept shifting his body and changing the positions of his sneakers. Eventually, he full rotated his body until he was turned away from the grub, which got an incredible view of the teenager's ass as Tommy kept texting
Now the scientist totally was left dumbfounded by the disregard that the teenager demonstrated toward him.
"Could you please stop your damn texting?" Mr. Pensky wanted to shout at Tommy. "What are you planning to do about me? You'e got to fix this!"
Even as he pleaded for Tommy's intervention, he had to wonder how this moron of a teenager ever be able to fix this?
In that moment, Tommy put his phone away. He leaned down and spoke. "Uhm... yo, Mr. Pensky. How are things down there?"
Mark squirmed in incandescent fury. "Anyway, I have to go. I have to... do homework."
"Homework!" Mark wanted to exploded.
"They keep us loaded down with homework, you know," Tomm said, but it was a lie to cover the fact he was about to go to the cinema to meet with one of his friends.
He produced a cheesy smile, rubbed his chin with one hand, and stared down at the grub. He knew he needed to hurry or he would miss the start of the movie.
"I'm sure you understand..." Tommy said and paused afterwards in the awkward silence.
"But I will come back later, ok? So don't you go anywhere in that time."
"Go!" Again, Mark wanted to scream. "Where the hell did Tommy think he could go?"
"You just stay right where you are, and we're all set, cool? Cool."
Tommy turned and walked off, leaving the little grub stranded.
"You cannot leave me like this!" Mark screamed inwardly. "Where are you going? Please, come back!"
