Space and Infectious Disease
The first few weeks of your trip are all smooth sailing. The inky black outside your window becomes monotonous and you settle in for the long ride.
It isn't easy for everyone though. One of your crew mates is suffering from space adaptation syndrome, a result of the body struggling to become adapt to microgravity. Another has been struggling with gastrointestinal distress. Oftentimes this kind of issue is caused by a change in gut flora. In a microgravity environment there is an increase in Enterobacteriaciae and Clostridia and a decrease in lactobacilli. The longer the duration, the more drastic these changes are.
E. Coli also become much harder to kill making it vital that foods are treated with gamma radiation before being loaded into the ship.
However, once the body becomes more used to the environment these symptoms tend to pass.
