You drop the wand. "Ralph!" you shout. "Off! OFF!"
Ralph stops growling. His eyes meet yours. He lets go of your sleeve.
You try again. "Off, Ralph!"
Ralph leaps off your chest. He licks your cheek.
"Good boy." You sit up. "Don't worry," you add. "I'll protect you from MagnifiCAT."
"Will you indeed?" a voice asks.
MagnifiCAT stands a few yards away, his long black cape flaps in the breeze.
Ralph crouches down and gives a low growl. Then he dashes at the magician. He leaps high into the air. His jaws close on MagnifiCAT's outstretched hand.
"Wretched animal!" MagnifiCAT shouts. "I'll grind you down into powder!"
