chill

You're awoken by your alarm clock blaring in your ear and the sun streaming through the crack in the curtains that you can never quite get to stay shut. You've been meaning to move your bed to a different spot in your room to get away from that annoying light but haven't quite gotten around to it yet. Your room is messy, as always, and moving a big piece of furniture would require days of cleaning and planning.

Outside, a construction crew works diligently on the neighbors' home; they're renovating for the umpteenth time. It seems like nothing ever is good enough for them. Meanwhile, your house is right next door, shabby and falling apart. The lawn is overgrown, the grass dry and brown. The screen door squeaks when opened. A window in the back has been broken for about a year now, and you still haven't found the time or money to do more than cover it with cardboard.

Speaking of money - you need to get up for work before you're late again. Your boss has already given you two warnings, and if you get one more then you're fired.
