One Way Out
You walked into the library, glancing at the bookshelves. There weren't that many places to hide anyways. John entered the room and you looked at him. "Hey," you said.
"Haven't found her yet. Library might be a good place," he said gruffly.
"Probably somewhere in the bookshelves," he said.
"In the bookshelves?"
"Yes, in the bookshelves. She's tiny, she can fit in there," John said.
The two of you heard a small squeak. John cocked his head and walked closer to the source. "Emma, I know you're in here," he cooed out.
You looked through the bookshelves again. Cowering in the darkness was a shivering form. "Found her," you yelled out and grabbed her by her shirt and threw her out. John walked over and surveyed her. She stood up and tried to run away but John grabbed her before she could move three feet. He placed Emma forcefully on the rectangular tables. You grabbed the rope and tied her to the table. John looked at Emma's axe.
"Want to do the deed?" he asked.
"It would be an honor," you replied and took the axe he held out towards you. You swung it in one clean arc across her neck. The blade of the axe embedded into the table.
"Good work, now you and me are the only ones left," he said. You turned and saw the deadly smile he was giving you. His red eye glinted in the dim lighting. He was holding Ethan's steak knife. The knife hit your chest at an impossibly fast speed and you struggled to get it out. You couldn't before John was on you again. He pulled the knife out and stabbed again. And again and again and again.
Like the first kill that happened in this accursed place, was the last coherent thing that you thought.
