Telepath

Even as every fiber in your body wants to run, you stand your ground as Mrs. Jelani walks closer. She searches your face; for what, you can not say. "What do you want?" You snap to break her gaze. She blinks as if taken out of a dream, "I need your help," your teacher says. Her mood turns serious, almost somber, "and you need mine". Your ears perk up, why would you need her help? And how did she know you were a telepath?. As if she had read your thoughts, she is quick to explain: "People are looking for you. Dangerous people. I can protect you, but we have to leave now". For the first time since the screaming pierced your ears, you find your voice: "How did you know?". Mrs. Jelani holds in a breath and her nostrils flare. Did you say something wrong?

But before she could answer a clinking sounds beyond the window. When you turn around Mrs. Jelani is already reaching out to take your wrist and drags you out the door. Her grip is firm but not strong enough to bruise. She guides you down the hallway and to the right. As you reach the cafeteria you encounter another student. A boy, although you do not recall seeing him before. Mrs. Jelani stops, the boy looks to her, eyes glinting in recognition. They travel down the teacher's arm to you. His lips curl up and the screaming breaks out once again in your head. You let go of your teacher and cover your ears as if the pressure could somehow alleviate the agonizing pain.

Everything after is blurry, but when the screaming stops, the boy lays unconscious on the floor and Mrs. Jelani holds a bloodied shoe in her hand. The bell signaling the end of third period rings above. Mrs. Jelani messily drags the student to the corners and covers him with chairs. You are still recovering your breath but are more than ready to bolt. However, your teacher is quick and efficient, and is dragging you out of the school before you can protest. She looks frantically around while opening the door to her car. By the time you are both in the car you have recovered from the migraine,
