My Rich Neighbor
He lead you to the lunch room that's filled with many people sporting the school's uniform. You both walk in the line together and get a few stares from some of the people you pass. One girl whispers to her friend and points directly at you. You feel as if you're on display or something. You reassure yourself that the "new kid" thing will blow over within a week. You see a bar-like counter with different trays on it. You see salad, sandwiches, and pizza. You see Dominic grab a salad so you do the same.
"I don't know why but salad is the thing that everyone gets," he says picking up a small cup of ranch. You grab a container of croutons and head out with him. You don't even pay for it. It must be in the tuition. He leads you to a table with the high kind of chairs. You sit down with him. You are so relieved he didn't leave you to go sit with his friends. It would be so awkward to sit alone.
"Thanks for the tour," you say. He looks up from his salad and simply nods.
"I volunteered because I like to meet new people," he says, continuing to poke at his salad. "I've been at this school for what seems like forever and you get tired of the same old people. So whenever there's a new student I always want to be the first one that meets them. It's kinda my thing," he says laughing to himself. Your smile grows wider.
"Well, what are the best clubs or activities around here?" You want to know what your options are but telling from what you've seen so far there is going to be a lot of options.
"Our sports teams are excellent. All of them really. Drama is great and the band is top in the country. Debate team is going to nationals this year and our chess club keeps beating everyone. Our cheer and dance teams are coached by professionals. And our cooking club makes the most delicious food you'll ever taste," he says, rambling off each club from memory. You're extremely fascinated. You want to try drama but also want to join the cooking. Maybe you can pick up your old flute and join the band again.
