One Way Out

You tried to come up with an excuse to leave. John notices immediately. He stopped talking and considered you for a moment. You started to back up towards the door. John lets you leave. You pondered why he would do such a thing when you collided against someone. You jumped to the side and saw Jonathan glaring at you.
"Watch where you're going," he told you.
"Look who finally decided to show up," John said icily.
"John, nothing's wrong, right?" Jonathan gauged John evenly. He took a step towards John. The doorway was clear. You took the opportunity to slip away, unnoticed. You started hearing yelling from the room but you didn't look back.
