escape from death
You walk for what feels like hours in the hot sun. When your legs are limp and sore, the path widens into a road. Parked on the road is a bright, yellow taxi with checkered patterns on the doors. You walk slowly, panting heavily, towards the vehicle. You open the door and greet the driver with a breathy “Hi”. The driver doesn’t respond, but begins driving. You reach for a seatbelt but your hands grip nothing. You dismiss this and try to get a good look at the driver. His face is covered by a black baseball hat, which you can see covers his eyes when you look in the mirror. The car’s speed begins to increase. “You’re going a little fast there,” you say casually to the taxi driver. Still, the cab goes even faster. “Woah hey, you’re really going fast!” The world outside your window becomes a blur. “Um, hey, you know what? I’ll just walk... so...if you could just stop the car?” You sputter, but the gas pedal is almost to the floor. The driver doesn’t move an inch, and keeps his eyes forward. “Can you stop the car?” You ask, raising your voice. When he still doesn’t speak you yell, “Stop the car! Let me out, stop!” You look forward angrily at the man, when suddenly your attention shifts to an object in the distance. A massive tree looms in the middle of the path, and you are going directly towards it at full speed. Your heart beats rapidly and you let out a high-pitched scream. “LET ME OUT!!” You shriek to the driver. “STOP IT, STOP, PLEASE!!! DO YOU HEAR ME, STOP THE CAR!!” You turn towards the doors and try desprately to unlock them. Banging your fists agains the glass, you cry for the taxi to slow down. This is getting you nowhere, and you turn your attention to the cab driver. You pound your fists against his back and pull on his jacket hysterically, howling, “STOP THE CAB, STOP THE CAB!!!!” Finally the man turns around, his head rotating towards you slowly, like an owl’s. The truly horrifying reveal leaves you parylized as you gaze at the driver. His face is pale and lifeless, covered in purple-and-yellow bruises. His hair is stringy and sticks to his face in clumps. His nose is long and pointy, like that of a witch. The most ghastly part of it all is his eyes. They are colossal, the size of ping-pong balls, and bugg out of his eyelids. His entire eye is black, except for a microscopic white spot in the corners of his eyes, which are mostly covered with red veins. The shock leaves you floored, and you shakily whisper, “Please....no... stop...”. Not a millisecond later, you crash at lightyear-velocity into the tree. The nightmarish challenge restarts itself when you bang your skull against the seat.
