escape from death

Hazy memories fill your mind, dark and cold, like a foggy afternoon. An innocent trip on your shoelaces turned fatal. The thoughts flash across your mind like a twisted display: The clunk of your head hitting each stair, the gasps and shrieks after people discovered your glassy eyes and blood-covered forehead. The thought of this makes your breath short and panicked, and your mind races with confusion.

Your eyes flash open, clouded with distress and aggression. they analyze the room around you, darting from side to side. Everything was white: The walls, the floor, the ceiling, and the uncomfortable-yet-futuristic chair you found yourself sitting in. While some might find the emptiness peaceful and quiet, given the circumstances, it came across as lonely and threatening.

On two white rectangular stands in front of you are a vase and a diamond. The vase is tall and faded, and has depictions of Grecian-type Gods and Goddesses on it in royal blue and tan. The porcelain surface has cracks extending down it, and the wide rim has several chips. It's evident that the antiquity is priceless. The diamond is gigantic; Similar to the 'baseball' diamonds you would see in movies. Through its glassy surface, you can see the many facets of the stone.

Suddenly a deep, raspy voice booms in your ears. "You are dead." Your heart drops. "You have been given a gift that most souls would die a million times more for. Show you have the courage, strength, and cleverness it takes to return to the mortal world and you will be sent back. But for now, you must choose. We will be watching you closely."

You look carefully between the diamond and vase, and try to make a desision.
