Erinyes Game
Taking a deep breath, you slowly open the door and step out into the hallway, hands up to show you're unarmed.
Apollo is standing a few doors away, eyes wide before regaining composure.
"Hestia." He smiles, but it doesn't reach his eyes. "I'm glad you decided to chat."
"Maybe we can work something out, Apollo," you say, forcing yourself to smile right back. You don't have a plan, but that wasn't going to stop you.
"Sure. Or I could just kill you here, winning the game for the Furies."
It's at that moment that you notice the crossbow he's holding, and the matching bolts in a pouch on his belt.
Your heart starts to pound. "I-I wouldn't do that if I were you."
"And why's that?" You hate that he's smirking at you. Apollo knows you're at his mercy, unable to dodge a crossbow in this hallway. You would be dead before you could lay a finger on one of the daggers.
"Because Hera is planning to betray you." You say it with such conviction that you nearly convince yourself.
Apollo blinks, lowering the crossbow.
You use his silence as an opportunity to keep going. "Don't you remember the last Moirae? Hera was so quick to throw Artemis under the bus, and she even pointed at her. It was four against two."
"If she'd pointed at Aphrodite," he mumbles, "it would've been a tie."
"Exactly. And there might have been a chance to save Artemis." You extend your hands towards him, silently pleading with him to believe you. "If Hera was so willing to betray your sister, who's to say she won't betray you next? Join me, Apollo. I already have Aphrodite on my side. We can defeat Hera and make to Moirae with the three of us."
He stares right at you, eyes boring into you. To your credit, you match his gaze, and he's the first to look away.
"Why would you ally with me?"
You shrug. "I have nothing left to lose."
Apollo walks towards you now, and you fight the urge to flinch back. He abruptly sticks out a hand. "I'll join you two."
Letting out the breath you didn't know you were holding, you shake his hand. "Great. Aphrodite said she would meet me in a large storage room further down this hallway."
"Let's find it, then."
With Apollo's help, you find it quickly. Walking in, you cough as dust enters your lungs. There's junk strewn everywhere, making it hard to walk through the room.
