Erinyes Game
You cover your mouth with both hands, trying not to hyperventilate.
"Hestia?" Apollo's voice sounds close now, too close. "Come on, I won't hurt you. Let's talk things out."
How can you believe him, when he's stalking after you like a predator after prey? Aphrodite was the only one you could trust, but you can't meet up with her yet. First you have to overcome this obstacle.
Apollo's footsteps grow louder and he passes the room where you are. His voice is now coming from further down the hall.
"Hestia!" Annoyance is starting to creep into his voice. "Come out already. We don't have to fight, can't you see that?"
Slowly you open the door, careful not to make a sound, and peek down the hallway. Apollo's back is to you and he's continuing on. He pauses by one door, opening it.
"Ugh, I hope she didn't reach the storage room," he mumbles.
You perk up. Storage room? It might be the one where Aphrodite wanted to meet you. Apollo enters that room, leaving the door ajar. You sneak after him.
This room is indeed a large storage room, messy and filled with boxes and junk. Apollo is searching among the boxes for any sign of you.
Unsheathing your daggers, you creep up on him until you're close enough. You launch yourself at his back, stabbing directly into his shoulder. The other dagger misses, but you keep your grip on it.
Apollo roars in pain, stumbling away from you. "Damn...Hestia?"
You raise your remaining dagger and point it at him.
"I really didn't want to do this. We could have talked, you know." He jumps away from you, grabbing onto his own weapon with his uninjured hand.
You try to run at him before he can fire, but it's already too late. The crossbow bolt hits its target, and you go down like a sack of bricks. Apollo stands over you with a pitying look that almost hurts more than your punctured lung.
"We could've worked something out," he says regretfully. "Too bad. Goodbye, Hestia. This is the Furies' victory."
