Summer Vacation
You turn to look at Julie. The moonlight glistens in her eyes and behind the heavy makeup and the tight clothes you see a girl who is frightened and alone and desperately needs a friend.
"Let's go to Florida," you say.
"Really?" Julie says.
"Yup. I went on this road trip to find some adventure and there's nothing more adventurous than travelling across the country with a beautiful girl that I've just met," you say.
"You certainly know all the right lines," she says with a grin.
A few minutes later, Julie comes back and hands you a bus ticket and fifteen minutes later, the two of you are on a bus bound for Florida.
"So, how long will this bus trip take," you ask.
"Two weeks," Julie says.
Two weeks! You had no idea that it took so long to make it across country. As you begin to fall asleep you wonder what your parents will think when they don't hear from you, or what is going to happen to all of your stuff that your friends have in the back of their car.
The next morning when you wake up you find that the bus has stopped at a small town in Nevada for everyone to stretch and get something to eat.
Julie is sitting on the curb in front of a small diner drinking a cup of coffee. As she stands up, you catch a glimpse of a strange tattoo in the shape of a map with a single Japanese character above it on her lower back. Its sort of cute and strange and you think about asking her about it, but you also have a feeling that maybe you should call your parents and tell them where you are.
