Erinyes Game

You won’t have time to pull out the machete. At the same time, you spin to grab a knife from Aphrodite’s table.

Your hand doesn’t make it. Aphrodite slices right into your side before stabbing you again and again and…you can barely think through the pain. You fall back onto Aphrodite’s bed, and she leans over you, holding her knife aloft.

You can feel something dripping onto your face. It’s not blood—Aphrodite’s tears.

“I’m so sorry, Hestia,” she sobs, stabbing you again. “For what it’s worth, I really did and do care about you. I wish things could’ve been different.”

Aphrodite gently lays you on her bed, arranging your limbs so you can, at least, die comfortably.

Hades’s voice breaks through the haze in your mind. “Oh, Hestia. Things didn’t have to be this way.”

“I…don’t care. Aphrodite…good luck.”

You watch Aphrodite head to the door. She looks back at you and gives you one last tear-filled smile before departing.

As the light fades from your eyes, you quietly hope that she actually does manage to escape. At least then, your death wouldn’t be in vain.
