Erinyes Game

Reaching for Aphrodite, you pull her close, making sure to avoid her injured shoulder.

“Everything is going to work out,” you tell her, “I promise.”

“I believe you.”

You stay in each other’s arms and simply cry together for a bit. Letting out your sorrows over the deaths you had to experience makes you feel a little better. At least this friend wouldn’t try to backstab you ever again.

And then you feel a sharp stab, right in the middle of your back. Blood pours in a warm stream from this new wound, and you pitch forward into Aphrodite’s lap.

“I’m sorry, Hestia.” Aphrodite pushes the scissors in deeper, making you groan in pain. “I can’t die here. For what it’s worth, I really did and do care about you. I wish things could’ve been different.”

Aphrodite gently lays you on her bed, pushing the hair out of your face and arranging your limbs so you can, at least, die comfortably.

Hades’s voice breaks through the haze in your mind. “Oh, Hestia. You were so close.”

“I...don’t regret a single thing.”

You watch Aphrodite head to the door. She looks back at you and gives you one last sincere smile before departing.

As the light fades from your eyes, you really do think that the two of you could’ve been friends under different circumstances.
