Erinyes Game
“All right. Let’s work together. Just don’t chase me down like that again, okay?”
He beams down at you. “It’s a deal.I really am sorry for scaring you, by the way.”
The two of you start to walk back together, making small talk.
“Why did you choose me, Hermes?” You can’t help but ask.
He shrugs. “You just seem like a nice and level-headed girl, compared to the others.”
“Level-headed?” You laugh aloud. “I freaked out at Poseidon’s death, how is that level-headed?”
“I mean, I’d be more concerned if you didn’t react at all. I think that’s worse.” Hermes pauses before adding, “Speaking of that, did you notice that Ares was way too calm at seeing a head roll on the ground? He just stared like it was nothing.”
You shudder, not wanting to be reminded all over again. “That’s weird, yes.”
“I think there’s something odd about him,” he says.
“Don’t you think you’re reading too much into it?” You respond.
Hermes doesn’t reply, and he suddenly stops walking. Before you can ask what’s wrong, you see Ares approaching the two of you.
