I took a deep breath and steeled myself to play it nice. Maybe if I cooperated, I could talk him into letting me go.

"Alright," I said, standing up as best I could without using my still-tied hands. "Maybe if you unbind me, we can work this out."

He gave me an appraising look, like maybe he hadn't been expecting this kind of level-headed bargaining. "Very well. Come with me."

I followed the man out into a wide hallway and even larger living room, all marble floored and decorated in life size statues in the garb of various eras.

There was only one word to describe it all--expensive.

"You obviously have very refined taste," I said, still choosing my words carefully considering he hadn't yet untied me. "And a man of such stature would certainly not desire to be wanted for criminal kidnapping, now would he?"

Okay, so I tried. But the man swiveled to glare down at me, a deep scowl creasing his face. "Do not," he growled, "Treat me like some commoner! The law--" he paused "The human law does not touch those of my stature."
