Homicide and Havoc on Halloween

You pull out your phone and text Scarlett that you’ll be able to go with her, and you apologize for rejecting her plea earlier. Immediately, she replies, “It’s ok, I may have overreacted a bit. I am rlly excited now ? I’ll be there in 1 hour.” You reply with, “Okey, See u then!” and shut off your phone. You need to complete your homework as fast as possible so you can have time to go trick-or-treating later. You collect your materials and start to bring them upstairs when you realize that you don’t have a costume. This is a problem because you don’t have time to buy one and all your old costumes don’t fit. You decide to just go in your regular clothes, since texting Scarlett to bring you a costume would be too much of a hassle. Plus, she would probably bring you something really embarrassing to wear, so you're better off wearing plain old jeans and a sweater. You open the door to your room and then close it behind you. You change out of your uncomfortable uniform into a pair of jeans and fuzzy sweater with pumpkin decorations on it. As you prepare for the next forty-five minutes of homework, you go open the door to your room. Suddenly, Octavia jumps out in front of you, trying, but failing to scare you. “Not another distraction,” you mutter to yourself. Octavia jumps up and down and exclaims, “Paige, guess what?” She teasingly says, “I’m going to be Rainbow Dash from My Little Ponies for Halloween!” You sarcastically answer, “Oh, wow. That’s an awesome costume idea.” You reply, while Octavia is unaware of your disinterest, “I know, right?” she boasts. You walk forward, pushing the hyper preteen aside, walking towards the office, where you do your homework. Finally, you sit down at the desk, ready to start. You pull out your textbook and binder, and begin.

You worked efficiently for a good amount of time, so luckily, you got your homework done early! You get Octavia from her room and you both go downstairs to prepare to leave. Once you and Scarlett have 2 pillow cases to hold candy and your shoes on, you open the front doors to leave. You are almost blinded by the flashing purple, orange, and yellow lights and your ears fill with the chatter of little trick-or-treaters. It takes a second to wrap your head around all the commotion, but you see Octavia already rushing ahead of you. You snap out of your moment and call after her, "Hey, wait up! We have to meet Scarlett on Wade's Boulevard, not Ratchet Road!" Once you catch up to Octavia, you grab her shoulder firmly, so she doesn't run away. You keep a steady trail all the way to the intersection where you are supposed to meet Scarlett, when you see that she is already there. "Sorry," you say, "How long were you waiting?" Scarlett replies, "Not long. Now let's go have some fun!" Her animated movements seem funny to you when she twirls around and points farther down the road in excitement. Octavia then blurts out, "Can we go to the other road? This one is boring. There's no candy anywhere!" She wants to cross a really busy road. And it might be dangerous to try and cross it.
