Out of Time

A white light blinds you and causes you to open your eyes. You stretch sleepily. You see your mom reading in the chair across from you. You look around and realize that you're lying in the hospital bed from the coma hospital. You're back.

"Mom?" Your voice is very hoarse and your head hurts a lot. You feel pretty tired just from sitting up. Your mom looks up and begins to sob uncontrollably upon seeing you. She runs towards you and wraps her arms around you tightly.

"Amara!" You both sob together, finally reunited after a long time. Your dad and the rest of your family rush in and shower you with hugs. After a few minutes of sobbing and I love yous, you ask the tough question.

"Where's Natalie? Is she okay?"

Your mom smiles. "She's outside. She's being sitting in this hospital every spare moment she has for the past three weeks." You smile happily.

"Can we talk alone?" Your mom nods and calls to Natalie from the hallway. Seconds later, she enters.

"I'm going to get you something to eat, Amara, okay?" You nod and your mom leaves the two of you alone.

"I'm so happy you're awake. Thank you for living and I'm sorry for being such a selfish and terrible friend to you. I shouldn't have dated Dean behind your back..." Her voice drags off.

"It's okay. To be fair, I was taking adventage of our friendship long before you started. I forgive you, Nat. I should have listened to you when you said that Dean was a bad guy."

"I only said that because I wanted him for myself."

"Well, I still should have listened."

"Thank you, Mar, for doing that for me. I don't think I can ever repay you for what you did back there. I'm sorry that I put you in a position where you had to make that choice."

"For you, it was worth it."

You learn from Natalie that Dean is currently in jail awaiting trial for the murder of Becca Stalman, but with the confession and the other pieces of evidence they have stacked against him, you know he'll probably be there a while. Your parents say you'll be free to leave the hospital at the end of the week. You don't tell anyone about what happened while you were in the coma, simply saying that you don't remember anything about it. Not everything goes back to as it was before, but you realize that's actually for the best. At the end of the day, you're thankful to be free and back to your old life.
