The Haunting of Lake Side Cemetery

You decide that base camp is the most important thing to get settled and head to the right. The leaves crunch under your feet and you reach the house. It looks much more normal than you anticipated. It's small, blue stone and has over grown flower beds all around, tiny red roses blooming. The windows are intact but dirty and while you're pretty sure it's all one floor there does seem to be an attic. Something moves out of the corner of your eye and you still, focusing on the window to the attic. Is something there? You squint, because you are certain you saw a shadow move, but the the window is dark and no matter how hard you look you see nothing.

"Probably my imagination," you say to yourself. Honestly you're less afraid it's a ghost and more concerned it's a wild animal or squatter. But whatever the case now you're nervous about your plan to enter the house.

You look up, the sun is shining well above your head and the house sits directly under the sun, the warmth on your face feels really good and steadies your nerves. Again, why is this place bugging you so much? The haunted asylum was much scarier and you'd been there for two days during Halloween.

Straightening your shoulders you walk up to the front door, it's white wood and the paint is chipping. There's a window next to it, it's filthy. Using your sleeve to clean the glass you peer into the front room. It's a large room with several pieces of furniture that look pretty good for being abandoned. There's an open book on the coffee table and a blanket folded on the couch. An entertainment center with a box tv also holds over a dozen books and knickknacks. So the locals were right, the people who lived here all left without taking any of their things.

You move from the window and grab the door knob, hopefully it's unlocked and you won't have to really break in.

You wonder how much of the stuff is from the brief stays of the three last care-takers or are from the original one? The one who vanished? You're about to turn the handle when you hear a creek above you, from the attic and you freeze.

Again you feel like something or someone must also be in the house. But that's just stupid, right? Old houses creek. Best to stay to the plan.
