You wake, jolting straight up in your bed.
You check the time and see it is 4:30 in the morning. Unfortunately, you can't sleep, and decide to get up out of bed.
"Lights on, 50% brightness," you moan, and the lights come on at your command. You are Ace, a member of the Nairay species. You don't know much about your own people, especially since you are the only one you've met. Alone on your ship, you are trying to get back to your homeworld on the other side of the galaxy. You have travelled many light years away from the United Federation of Planets, in the Terran system, otherwise known as Earth and its neighboring planets. Your appearance is rather unique, but people don't seem to mind you. You have green skin, shimmering purple eyes, which is one of the attributes of your people. That was what your Bajoran father told you, anyway. He said that he had seen some of your race, but now you don't believe him. On the top of your head you have several ridges going towards the back of your neck. You don't have any head hair, but you have plenty elsewhere. Other than that, you're glad you look like a normal humanoid. If only you knew how to get back to your own people.
"Hot cocoa," you tell the computer again, and inside the replicator comes out a cup of hot cocoa. You sip the drink and exit your quarters.
The low hum of the engine core fills the ship, and you enter the bridge.
"Computer, how far away are we from the starbase at Hivoth Prime?"
"APPROXIMATELY SIX HOURS."
"Increase speed to warp six. Change heading to one one zero, mark three five nine."
"HEADING ADJUSTED."
You walk to the door to exit the bridge, when suddenly a loud beeping is heard.
"SHIP APPROACHING, BEARING THREE FOUR SEVEN, MARK FIVE ONE TWO."
"What the-? Computer, identify the ship."
"KLINGON BIRD OF PREY."
"Ah, dammit. Kolgar has never failed me, has he? Hail the Klingon ship." On the monitor in the front of the room, a Klingon face fills the screen. Deep scars sear across the Klingon's face, and he wears several ear piercings.
"Ace, you little P'TAKH! You think I am a fool? I have been following you ever since you left the starbase in the Morlon system!"
"I'm sorry, Kolgar. Whatever debts I owe you, I will pay them."
"That is what you told me last time, Nairay! I suggest you give me what you said you would two months ago!"
"I don't know what you're talking about, Kolgar, but I'm in a bit of a hurry to get to - "
"The next starbase, I presume? So you can hide out until we meet again in deep space?"
"I assure you, there is nothing that I am hiding."
"You...lie...to me. Lower your shields...and I will come aboard peacefully. Or I will destroy your bridge and take what is mine by force."
Kolgar's patience is not known in the Klingon empire. The item you have is an old batliff of Kolgar's, which you stole so you could sell to Ferengi merchants at the Hivoth starbase for lots of latinum. That latinum could get you some new...items, if you knew where to look.
But, again, Kolgar's patience is not known in the Empire. Hurry and make a decision before he blows up the bridge.
