Doorways

You decide to stay where you are, fearing that this big brute may have friends around who are just as big and fearsome.

"What are you doing wandering these woods?" he demands.

One of the women speaks up and explains that you are merely travellers seeking a safe haven.

"Is that so? Why do I feel that you are not telling me the truth, hmmm?" he replies. "Show me what you wear around your neck!" he commands.

Both of the women with you tentatively reach down the front of their dresses to reveal that they are wearing brown leather cords with the small figure of a half-moon dangling from them.

He next directs his gaze towards you.

"And you, what do you wear?" he asks.

You think quickly and declare that you must have lost yours while running through the woods. This seems to satisfy him, for the moment.

"Then you are not Christians!" he exclaims. "This is good, otherwise you would not live for much longer," he says with a big grin.

One of the women decides to explain to him your situation and that you are now on your way to a safe house.

He offers to guide you there safely.
