The World After: Chapter One

As you get up, your daughter comes rushing into the room. She has to avoid all the beer cans, crumbled unpaid bills, and the empty cigarette boxes. After she completes the trash course to your bed, she helps you get out of bed. Already you have a burning headache from drinking too much last night.

She wasn't ready for school!

You look your daughter over and ask, "Juliet! Get your clothes on! You have to be at school in twenty minutes!"

She has that confused look on her face. Not the "I don't understand this math problem" look, but the "Why are you like this?" look. She grabs your hand without saying a word and takes you through the beaten hallway. The hallway is covered in stains, broken class of family photos, and of course: more beer cans.

She places you on the couch with her eight year old muscles. She turns on the television and just stares. The problem is. . .there is nothing. TV didn't even turn on. You grab the remote and start to switch channels. You eventually get a channel.

An old woman is carefully reading a paper with a headline above her reading, "Stay Indoors."
She began to speak with her fragile voice, "All unde-"

The channel turned to static.

You have no idea what is going on. You wonder what you should do about this awful shitty television.
