Revolutions such as the Boxer rebellion and the French Revolution were expressed through arts and literature. Romantic poets were greatly influenced by the manifestation of ideals of equality, citizenship, and human rights during the French Revolution. However events such as the Reign of Terror and the many executions, romantic poets conveyed the terror Aristocrats faced during the revolution. Many paintings such as the famous “Liberty Leading Her People” depict the horrors of the battlefield as well, but still convey hope as lady liberty leads the army onward. Arts were used during revolutions to convey the varying emotions to the target audience.
