The Haunted School
"I want to welcome you all to the 56th annual school sleepover event," says the man with the goatee. His partner, the blonde woman is standing next to him, holding a clipboard and frowning. She does not look like she welcomes us at all. The man continues, "You have all chosen to be here, or at least, your parents have chosen to send you here for the evening," he says, glancing down at the woman, who, at last, smiles at his attempt at humor. "Remember that."
"What is that supposed to mean?" you wonder
Finally, the woman speaks up. "You are in for an exciting evening," she says, walking forward and rocking onto the balls of her feet. She is bouncing, and her movements are those of an excited person, but her voice fails to reflect that enthusiasm. Her voice is oddly flat and without affect of any kind. Like a robot's. She looks straight ahead, not making eye contact. "I am sure that you have all read the rules," she says in the same monotone voice, "and that you have packed according to those instructions. No cell phones, flashlights, or any electronic devices are permitted tonight. Tonight, you are unplugging. We hope that you will learn some things about yourself during this program. You may find some of tonight's activities to be stressful, but I assure you that you will be fine, if you just follow the rules."
